My 18 year old grandson and I normally have good discussions about the books he has read in AP senior English. However, this is one book he will not talk about other than to say that he would not have chosen to purchase it. I read it a month ago and laughed, cried, and enjoyed much of it. But, I’m a girl and could identify with Esperanza’s musings. Did I like the format? Yes. Did I like plowing through the lack of punctuation and rereading? No. Do I think this book should be critically analyzed word for word looking for deep meaning and intention? No.
