This book seems to follow the current trend of complaining about hardship. No doubt the author faced many hardships in assimilating into a new culture and losing her homeland under dramatic circumstances. Still, to devote a whole book to it and to not have any characters encouraging gratitude for the many, many gracious generous acts that made their new lives possible is offensive to me. The book would be good for a child to read as long as someone came alongside to point out the positive role that both the United States as a country and others as well did to help this girl and her family.
