I have never in my life reviewed a game on Google, but I had to leave one for this one. I cannot believe all the negative criticism this game is getting. Are there some noticeable framerate issues? Sure. Are there bugs? Yeah but they're not gamebreaking. I've seen way worse bugs in just about any Bethesda title, yet those games are critically acclaimed.
I was a huge fan of the pokemon series growing up, but I stopped with diamond and pearl. Got back into the series as an adult this year with the remakes that came out. Those games were absolute garbage. I say this just to address any concerns I may be biased.
They absolutely nailed all of the complaints I had with this series as a whole. They took a ton of the good stuff from pokemon legends arceus and added it to a mainline game. The open world feels incredible, especially after you get all the movement upgrades and can just move effortlessly about the terrain. The stories are by far the best I've ever seen from a mainline pokemon game. The titan story in particular almost made me shed a tear, and they keep that emotion coming when you complete the final quest of the main story.
The pokemon designs are AWESOME. This is coming from someone who much prefers to stick with his favorites from gen 4 and before. The idea of the paradox pokemon is just phenomenal as well. And tons of new evolutions have some really cool side quests (you'll probably have to google most of them as they are NOT obvious).
The game manages to bring in some dark ideas/elements while keeping the entirety of the playthrough lighthearted and fun. There's no evil team hellbent on destroying the world, yet I find myself so much more engaged and actually caring about the characters than I ever had. For once, they actually feel like they have some personality.
I cannot recommend this game enough. If you ever dreamed of playing an open - world pokemon game as a kid, this is the game for you. I hope they continue in this direction and polish it a bit for generation 10.
I will add one slight negative comment: they really should have done something with level scaling. I rushed through the path of titans because I wanted to be able to have all the movement options. I had to cheese my way through the higher level battles, but then when I went to challenge the gym and team star, I found myself severely overlevelled. I think they could have made the major fights a bit more difficult, but you have to remember that the main story fights have never been much more than click strong move and win.
