I'm gonna be honest. I was one of those people who clicked on Mindhunter but stopped mid-way through the first episode because I got bored. A year later, I picked it back up, and man oh man--I have never loved a crime series like I love Mindhunter.
The first season was absolutely sit-at-the-edge-of-your-couch riveting and aesthetically pleasing. It was set in the 70s, an era of peace and love and hippies, but also when serial killers were mushrooming left and right. But at the time -- there wasn't even a term for them yet, much less a FBI profiling unit.
It's really interesting to see how the FBI and law enforcement has evolved from just looking at the hard evidence, to understanding killers and what makes them tick, and using this information to catch them. And it's interesting to see how certain terminologies that we use today started, and how people have started to accept psychology as a legitimate science, rather than just cuckoo.
Nobody has talked about this in previous reviews, but one of the main things that hooked me into the show was Holden's (the main character) girlfriend Debbie. Hannah Gross as Debbie is such a memorable character, from her smartass wits to her hippie looks and lifestyle.
All in all, this is an incredibly memorable show, with excellent cast and intriguing story line that will keep you thinking about the show even after you've finished watching it.
