This show is not as bad as many make it out to be. It's quite enjoyable in my honest opinion. There's a lot of review bombing happening right now which is why I think you should take a lot of reviews and ratings with a grain of salt. I think many are blinded by anger and hate much like the jedi warn us about.
A lot of the "criticism" I've seen so far comes for the race, gender, and sexuality of certain characters, and how that makes the show "woke". which I don't see how any of that matters nor does it affect you or the story at all unless you're a bigot. Harsh way to put it, but many online in the "fanbase" have taken to these talking points in a not so respectful manner. There is no political or social agenda being pushed at all within this show. I think a lot of people in the fanbase have some introspection to do on why seeing women, people of colour, and queer people in Star Wars is such a problem for you. I see a lot of people says Star Wars is "escapism" but if your idea of escapism is a world where there's no minorities, then again that's an issue with you, not Star Wars.
Without saying any spoilers, many also say that the show ruins other aspects of lore, but that's really not the case at all, and that there's some nuance to these themes and ideas within the show that many fail to see. Some of these themes and ideas actually help build upon the existing lore.
I may be biased because to me, Star Wars is Star Wars. Any and all of it brings me excitement and enjoyment in its own way. The murder-mystery/thriller is fun, the martial arts fights are cool, the characters are good (especially Lee Jung-Jae's character Master Sol), the atmosphere, cinematography, and ships look really good.
TLDR:
Really good show if you like Star Wars and don't have a problem with women and minorities. Which is wild to say in 2024 but it's the sad truth.
Edit:
After the finale I have to say that this has become one of my favorite SW projects to date. Is it perfect? No. Is it the worst thing we've gotten? Also no.
My only criticism is that I wish that it was longer. Which isn't just an issue with this show, but almost all SW shows, save maybe the Mandalorian. SW needs to commit to actually making TV shows and not a movie
that that they cut into smaller parts. There's some ideas and questions that would have been great to have answers for but hopefully we see that in season 2.
