I read the Frank Herbert books as a young man and absolutely loved them ! So much so my mother also got in on the act and she loved them to . She thought and still does think that Duncan Idaho is the best name ever !
Roll on to the early eighties and I’m in a cinema in Glasgow watching the David Lynch adaptation of Dune. In my opinion it’s a fabulous film with ground breaking visuals as well as audio effects.
Roll on to Glasgow 2021 and I’m in a recliner seat in a brand new cinema watching Denis Villeneuve version with guess what, ground breaking visuals as well as audio effects. Brilliant casting all round, attention to detail (all Dune fans will know exactly what I’m talking about) and most importantly of all it didn’t try to do it all in one film , it’s too good a story to do that to. (With no disrespect to David Lynch who in my humble opinion did exceptionally well in his version).
So really looking forward to the next instalment and hopefully that brings not only a new audience to a classic science fiction film.
But maybe just maybe they will also read the original 1965 book and get their mums hooked on it as well.
