Mixed review - I loved the animation, the diversity of the characters, the music, and the context of meeting in the astral plane, etc. However, I found the pace and storytelling to be off - especially in the first twenty minutes of the film. The stage wasn't properly set for introducing characters and their personalities. They came out too strong with the jokes and I found some in poor taste. For example, it's hard to hear that the character thinks that a middle aged woman's voice is the most annoying voice they could use. As someone who will someday be a middle aged woman, it's hard to hear that my voice will be the most annoying voice imaginable. I also don't love the connotation communicated that a hard working accountant should be under-appreciated. If someone's motivation and determination help a system run smoothly.. why don't they deserve to be appreciated? This feels like pandering, when there was potential for some classier humour. There was a lot of potential in this movie, and much of it was reached in terms of visuals, ideas, representation, and teaching new ideas. I feel like it failed in completely tying things up in the end as well as with inconsistent pacing and some jokes in poor taste.
