(Spoilers) I provide a 3 star review merely because of Denzel Washington. This movie was ultimately a letdown in my opinion.
This storyline failed any action movie fan
Pros:
Brutal beginning which seemingly depicted a much darker Robert McCall then viewers have ever seen.
The one fight scene in the alleyway although 5 seconds is very good and shows that Robert McCall is still "that guy"
Denzel Washington's illustration of emotion and portraying an older Robert McCall is always a masterpiece.
The ending with Dakota Fanning's parents was touching!
Denzel will always be the best actor on the screen no matter, but I just feel like his talent was fair less utilized in this film.
Cons:
Antoine needs to stop presenting the entire movie throughout the trailers. He gave up the best parts in the trailer for Equalizer 1, majority of the parts in Equalizer 2, and Equalizer 3 showed every single good part.
The primary antagonist in the movie was not a significant villain. The trailer suggested that McCall would face a formidable opponent, but this never came to pass. The previous primary villains were more impressive than this character, who spent most of the film as the head of the mafia, surrounded by henchmen. However, McCall ultimately killed him by infiltrating his heavily-guarded mansion and poisoning him.
Why depict the mafia and all the soldiers in the village about to gun Robert down, but in the final confrontation have 4-5 killed plus their boss and game over?
As a viewer, I found that the plot and timeline of the movie were confusing and unstable. There was no clear understanding of the elapsed time, which made it difficult to follow the story. For instance, Robert gets seriously injured, but after a few scenes it shows him walking around with a cane as if it was just a minor injury. It would have been helpful to have a clearer indication of how much time has passed in the movie.
