Sooo, I read the books. LOVED IT (the movie). I kinda expect hate from the other... Readers *wink wink, nudge nudge, funny joke*, but I think the movie could have been a lot worse. As a Percy Jackson fan, I can honestly say that this was on the opposite side of the spectrum of book to movie adaptations as the Percy Jackson movies. (I mean that it was successful and well done, btw.)
Yeah, sure, TSFGAE took some creative liberties, but they were much, much more tolerable. They stayed with the same general plot line; and sure, I'd have loved to see more of the scenes where Agatha helped Sophie with... Tricking her boy troubles away, it still had an accurate representation.
A moment of silence for our friend Gregor, though. :(
All in all, the movie was edited beautifully, with a sweet plot that pretty much follows the main details of the books, with some dramatic flair added.
To all the haters saying it's "for little kids" I say, you are right... and wrong! This movie is an adaptation of a preteen/teen book series, so it would make sense that you would get that feeling. HOWEVER! I also say that a lot of people have an inner child (A wonderful thing that all the best people have), or a non-demanding taste, and this movie will be wonderful for them.
This movie is a perfect example of a bunch of tropes done right, without it ruining the story line.
Congratulations to all the people who worked on this delightful movie, you've done well!!!
