Shows no appreciation towards or work done to understand the source material. Contradicts source material on many occasions. Looks cheap, CGI/ volume is terrible. Writing is filled with plot holes and is plainly nonsensical. Characters are boring and one dimensional. This show provides little value to anyone seeking entertainment, let alone a Star Wars story.
The political messaging of this show is not effective. Star Wars is a political piece, the original trilogy spoke of authoritarian regimes, siding with small groups seeking fair and free lives, choosing good over evil. Something a vast majority of people understood during a time when the USSR was collapsing and militia groups were forming in South America.
This show argues through plot, character choices, and symbolism that men are a patriarchal force which oppress all women, specifically lesbians, by using Jedi as a symbol of patriarchal oppression. While women and lesbians are certianly be oppressed in some fashion, it is neither a universally understood message, a well held belief, or widely experienced problem in the western world. It certainly isn’t a pressing issue of this time, and it certainly has nothing do with good vs evil. Even so, Jedi certainly wouldn’t be patriarchal oppressors, as canonically, there is no difference between a male and female Jedi in terms of physical or political power within the organization. They’re a peaceful religion that supports justice, equality, democracy, and balance amongst all other things. Devoutly serving the natural forces of their world to seek higher knowledge. This show spits in the face of that.
That said, The show is so poorly written, it makes this real life problem of sexism seem silly and unnecessary to be talked about at all. It trivialized the problem and makes a mockery of it. Complete failure.
In short, It feels like a high-school art project fan film of a traumatized lesbian who used 180 million dollars to talk about a self-perceived problem of the patriarchy shutting down women AS SHE IS GIVEN THE CHANCE TO DIRECT A 180 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT IN A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR IP WITH ONLY ONE MINOR SUCCESS BEFORE THIS. It’s like id Polanski directed a movie about advocating against sexual assault, it just wouldn’t sit right coming from his mouth.
