With a plague of errors and visual bugs I cannot at this time Or possibly anytime give this a positive review.
After playing 50+ hours from launch I lost all my progress due to a crash and a cloud save error (cloud save was on by default, I had no idea). Not only has support been absolutely abysmal, It's taken 3 weeks to get back to me to let me know they can't do a single thing to help me, instead offering me 25 digital keys (12 keys, had 13 on the character that went missing) for digital loot inside their broken game.... Amazing.
-SPOILERS-
Borderlands 3 is a rehash of old character old jokes and even
some of the same missions from Borderlands 2. There is a little flavor added from "Tales from the Borderlands" and a weapon types from the Pre-sequel, The laser fire/Cryo damage.
The characters themselves are not nearly as impactful this time around, their dialogue seeming tired and repetitive with the overall mission being the exact same as BL2, Stop Person A from claiming the power of Vault B for their own.
No real twists. A to B.
Getting from A to B is a series of collect missions. A few of the side missions are unique while a lot of them felt like doing the same ol thing again and again. After point B it's back to Sanctuary.
Sanctuary is pedestrian.
A ship you launch very early on in the game. Neat, But for all intensive purposes it could be an underground bunker with a picture of outerspace. It lures you in with the promises of exploring the the outer reaches, staring at the expanse before you it becomes apparent there is very little choice happening here, instead of actually getting to explore your way into new zones you've become sequestered on this spaceship waiting for the dialogue to end so you can fast travel to the next place and collect item A to bring back to the spaceship. Sidenote, not a single one of the cut-scenes or dialogues are skippable even on TVHM, And it makes playing through the game with any other character an absolute chore,
Just how much time is wasted watching each of these when we've already seen them for the umpteenth time. Each time the same grinding line falls upon my ears It becomes a little less meaningful..
All the "planets" you go to feel hollow and over sized for the most part forcing you to use a vehicle to get from A to B. Did this decision come from the time they spent on all the vehicle customizations that quickly become redundant on higher difficulties, or was it an illusion of size thing.
How to even get started on the loot, the loot is what we live for...There is no consistency with the weapons, some green guns out damage Purple or even Orange guns. Orange drops are now mostly world drops, farming a boss on Mayhem 3 for a couple hours will quickly fill your arms with different orange loots. 1 or 2 of those might be useful/anointed.
While at 1st this loot-splosions seems favorable , it quickly becomes apparent that farming for any exact legendary is nigh impossible.
Is this a hold out hope for the DLC type of thing? Which in itself is kind of sad. Or is this all we can expect now?
TL/DR: Lacks fresh character/ bazillions of bugs
BL1: 8.5/10
BL2: 9.5/10
Pre-Sequal: 7.5/10
BL3: 4.5/10
