I was disappointed with the fact checking in last night's program. They inteviewed Anne Ruston and said that underemployment was between 4.3% and 6.3%. The ABS figures for underemployment is 14.3% and major private survey company puts at 16.3%.
They also let Josh Frydenberg get away with a huge lie. He claimed unemployment rate was lowest since 1974. The issue is that John Howard changed definition of being employed to working 1 hour per week in 2000 so comparing the rate anytime before that would be comparing oranges and apples. Before that, the definition would be the underemployment rate and that was far lower than the current 14.3%. . Get it right fellas!
