If you're looking for spectacular explosions and leaping over tall buildings, you won't get them. But Leave the World Behind is a deeply meaningful story. It resonates with class and race issues and asks that we consider human compassion. Most obviously, a black man and his daughter have to bargain their way into their swanky home, which they have rented out to a white family for the weekend. A "black out" has forced them to give up their plans and return home. When the suspicious white folks don't want to let them in, who's right? Who's wrong? Is it an either/or issue? There's much to think about. Think symbolism and metaphor, and pay attention to the details.
