Kalank hi Kalank hai
A grandure of sets set in 1946,heavyweight
names in starcast gets crusified with loose screenplay and storyline. Plastic emotions with no joy in partition background could not sail the ship. Story revolves around centre character of Roop played by Alia Bhaat who agrees to marry Dev Chowdhury played by Aditya Roy Kapoor to be his second wife and matchmaker is Dev's first wife Satya portraited by Sonakshi Sinha. Satya is diagonised with blood cancer and it's her last wish to see her husband to get married again. Room on the other hand picks up the deal being adamant and indigent in her fate and father to keep her responsibilities towards her younger sisters' marriage (as this deal came with heavy toll of money from Satya)
Whole story is based in Husnabad where Dev Choudhury along with his father Baldev Choudhury(Sanjay Duty) runs a newspaper called Daily Times.
Baldev Choudhury has an love child Zafar played by Varun Dhawan from Bahaar Begum portraited by Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri also couldn't accept her love child but Zafar is aware of everything and he gets close emotionally to Roop to teach his father Baldev a lesson.
Roop falls for Zafar and then comes to know everything behind his motive but by then Zafar also truly is in love with Roop. Satya passes away. A local party starts threatening Dev and Baldev for life as they were supporting one nation mantra against upcoming partition plead and to bring steel factory to Husnabad manufacturing swords as prime profession of Husnabad was Lohar.
on the other hand Roop gets close to Bahaari Begum while music lessons from later.
Alia Bhaat, Madhuri Dixit justifies their part so as Sanjay Dutt. Varun Dhawan looks trying his best on his part.
It is a love story and is left for people to judge that if the love stories had tent in it or it had only love.
There is nothing new to take from the movie apart from good costume design and sets as we see any other Dharma Movie. Music is very mediocre by Pritam and could not do justice to Amitav Bhattachariya's meaningful words
Abhishek Virman should only try adapting novels like his last one Two States rather than writing something new.
In one word it lacked soul and so many good actors were unused with a below average story.
