This movie is such great fun. Full disclosure, I'm one of the crazy superfans who has (as of this writing) seen the movie 7 times... twice in Palm Springs, California and then 5 times after traveling from the US to Australia. The first viewing, I liked it, but was so nervous because I had so much emotionally invested in it(and, honestly, financially... though, not as an investor... the only ROI I get is hopefully another movie, and some amazing experiences), I couldn't just enjoy it. The next viewing, I loved it! And it has held up over and over. It has a joyful old-time cinema feel. It has sweeping sets and stories, but doesn't feel tired and like all the other overproduced "Hollywood" movies. It's a movie that is sweet and funny and romantic, and I just love it.
In my many viewings, I also brought several Miss Fisher newbies who had never seen the show. They thought the movie was fun and easy enough to catch up with the characters. The chemistry between Phryne and Jack was clear, even to those who hadn't seen it kindling for years.
Go expecting an action-adventure, romantic romp, beautifully filmed.
