I love the first game and I love this one.
Admittedly I know it won’t be up to everyone’s taste. It’s pretty dark and traumatizing. The game carries a heavy emotional weight and asks a lot of the player to engage with the feelings it evokes.
The story is incredibly bold. Naughty Dog refused to play it safe, and I applaud them for that. Many players are upset with the direction the game went, but I think it’s brilliant. The story itself is incredibly well executed and complex. I’m on my second playthrough and there is still so much to discover. The story really rewards you for looking closely into the details.
Rarely has a game haunted me in this way. After my first playthrough, all I could do was think about it’s themes and what it all meant.
Evidently, it appears the game is love it or hate it. I have a suspicion the there are more in the love it crowd, but hate tends to be pretty loud. I encourage anyone considering the game to try it for yourself and see where you fall. Come in with an open mind and a willingness to let it tell the story it wants to tell.
