A REAL REVIEW (with spoilers): I give the movie 5 stars because the singing/acting by all the characters was absolutely flawless in my opinion. The lead actress playing ariel especially has the voice of an angel to the point where I couldn't imagine anyone else singing those songs other than the voice actor from the original animated movie. Also they stayed pretty true to the original story unlike many other live action remakes. There were a few minor changes which didn't make any difference in the story and some of them even made more sense. (SPOILERS) For example, Ariel's sisters were different races which people were upset about, but it makes perfect sense to me because the King was the ruler of all 7 seas and each of his daughters represented a different sea. Also, Eric had a mother this time which I also saw conplaints about, but that change made it make more sense as well because she didn't want Eric at sea and believed the sea gods were against them. This made the relationship between Ariel and Eric seem more realistic because it was forbidden love for both of them. She was not stern like King Triton, but was instead prepared to support him if/when things didn't work out, which was more motherly in my opinion. (END SPOILERS) My only critiques of the movie were that some scenes tended to be very dark. This is probably just a function of the scenes being actually filmed under water, or in other dark areas, but I wouldn't take off any points for this because it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the movie. Also, the CGI wasnt bad but I also feel that they could have made it seem a bit more magical too, especially in the "kiss the girl" scenes.
