This is such an enthralling and wonderful show filled with layers of so many subtle nuances within the characters that you hate to miss a single word,( as evidenced in my many rewinds) expression or gesture. Even the longingly wistful gazes out the windows of a characters remembered past speaks volumes, leaving you eagerly anticipating the unfolding of who these people truly are.
In Anne With An E I can see a great deal of myself, as I’m sure many of us do, though not nearly as brave ,adventurous, or outspoken as she is at such a young age. But with the joy, reverence and appreciation that she feels for nature and animals and her imagination and optimism for what is possible and strength and perseverance in the many obstacles and adversities that seem to befall her.
Though Anne is faced with many unkind and cruel individuals who seem to bring out her worst inclinations for behavior in the beginning she somehow manages later (often”kicking and screaming “) to twist the situation around with such verbal aplomb and delightful dramatics that the offending character is finally forced to show the kinder side of themselves and both they and Anne herself are elevated to greater understanding of each other and their situations.
More than the many life lessons that can be learned and there are many subtle layers of them as well as others, that like a broken slate across the head ,might slap you in the face, there are many funny, delightful and intriguing scenes to keep you entertained and send many of us back to fond remembrances of our long forgotten youth.
What I myself found most intriguing is the many changes that Anne brought into the lives of the Cupfords and how wonderfully they were able to find so much joy in their lives that they were unable to experience in their younger years due to a family tragedy. And to watch these stoic rigid seemingly unfeeling elder people gradually find their inner emotions finally coming to life again so they can experience the love, joy and hope for the future that they had previously lost just totally set my heart to singing!
The most amazing and totally surprising thing happened in my family with my husband of 44 years is that he’s been watching it with me too. This is an old Marine who up until now never watched much beyond sports, action movies, war movies, mysteries, thrillers and some educational shows. He watched the entire first season with me and even shushed me a few times so he could hear and didn’t even mind too much when I rewound it a few times so I could hear all of a fascinating dialogue that I missed some of. And to top it all off he even went on Google to find out more about the show before I did and now wants to watch the rest of the episodes (we watch 2-4 per day). He also asks me questions about it and now says he wants to see the Ann of Green Gables series to compare the two. No one could be more shocked than I am !!! Who took my husband and replaced him with this old softy. Of course having two Granddaughters after three sons might have a little to do with it. He’s definitely smitten. Wow Life really does Imitate Art, doesn’t it! Anne and Matthew.
I sincerely hope there will be more seasons besides the three already made. In this extremely difficult world today, we need more valuable life affirming and life changing shows like this. I’d give it ten stars if I could. WELL DONE CAST AND CREW !!! PLEASE CONTINUE!
