I gave 2 starts to Romulus only because I like other movies by Alvarez. The trailer was great. It was a solid promise that Romulus will be the first movie in Alien universe that doesn’t suck since 1986. However, it does. It’s just a tiny bit better than other sequels (Alien 3, 4, AVP and don’t get me started on Prometheus). Decent cast, but every single character is disposable. As a viewer you don’t care about them. You don’t feel anything when they die. To be fair, David Jonsson playing android was the only memorable role in this movie. As for the script, it’s all the same yawning, predictable plot twists that we’ve seen hundred times before. Not a single fresh idea that would make you slightly raise a brow for a second. VFX is mostly good, but somehow they badly messed up with face animation of Ian Holm. Seeing that rubber mask in 2024 felt like a joke. Tight budget? Tight schedule? Anyway, unfortunately Romulus is just another mediocre flic that will be forgotten in 1 month.
