I loved the movie. I thought it was refreshing to watch the musical scenes. Many of them were artistic. I had an issue with Celie, with her nappy hair and black skin representing "ugly black woman" while being contrasted with other characters considered beautiful with lighter skin and straighter hair. It played right into the stereo type. This hit home when a young girl in the audience shouted, "why is she so ugly". Imagine if the kind of black beauty that was showcased in Black Panther was showcased here. It would have, in my opinon, done more to expose the racist European aesthetic of beauty rather than support it. But this issue aside, I loved the movie and encourage everyone to see it and form their own opinions.
