Man I tried so hard to like this show. Every character is so hard to like ESPECIALLY the protagonist. He’s built up to be this super strong dude and all the anticipation is riiiight there… until it isn’t…
He’s beating up hella npc’s like it’s nothing, he has a cool Robert Paterson kinda vibe but then he runs into another seemingly random npc with dog water character development and get swept so easily. It’s a constant loop of like being trained, beat up couple no name baddies with guns then when push comes to shove and a dude with a briefcase shows up they rinse him. I’m all down for goku training to be the strongest type stuff but there’s something they do terribly wrong here, that leaves a bad dissatisfaction taste in your mouth?
It’s an uninteresting and repetitive build up with no release, there is never a pimple popping release of pleasure when u see him win and are like damn he just did that, holy shit! that was dope. It’s always like oh just as I was liking him again this happened, okay let’s start over and hope they get it right… oh no it happened again.
The main battles that go on are so so frustrating to watch and constantly feel like a David and Goliath kind of situation with it being so unbelievable (even within this fictional verse). There are also many times when they nail the anticipation and introduce an event where ur like damn Ight this is going to be cool but 9/10 when the climax is shown ur just like …really dude 😐. A main example, that broke the camels back was when The 1st owl, one of the strongest ghouls on the planet gets taken out by a squad of specialist, mind you without killing or injuring a single one (nice believable writing 👍🏻) and the 2nd owl (also op asf) comes in after. She thinks her dad’s dead and instead of being completely enraged and having a cool scene where she is killing everyone on that roof she just throws that girl with stitches against a wall repeatedly literally making no sense when it could just stab Tf out of that whole team.
After that it cuts to the protagonist and once again having all this hype built up saying how he was going to enter this final battle to save everything he cares about (mind you this family and loved ones he speaks of is his sole purpose for his “determination to getting strong”) and then getting beat by the first guy he meets pretty much… cool.
