Someone below said Prime Suspect isn't The Wire or the Sopranos, but it was the godmother and godfather of those shows. I think it stands up with them just fine. This show broke all the conventions of everything that came before it. Just watch any scene from the squad room with cameras roaming, multiple conversations happening at the same time, yet somehow it all coheres. Crack writing and acting everywhere. And Helen Mirren. That is all.
