This is the problem when you create a TV series out of a book series. A tv show is a very different animal than a book. You end up with the rabid fans of the book series lambast the entire thing because it doesn't match the book series. I didn't read the books and while I think it's not a fantastic TV show, I don't find it to be anywhere near a 1 star show or as bad and the many rabid fans here have made it out to be. I cringe at some of the writing, acting, and direction but it's "ok". Hence, a 3 star rating from me. From what I'm seeing here, I'm glad I didn't read the book series prior to watching this show. LOL!
