The number of books on the subject of finite element analysis (FEA) is huge. A majority of these books are written by authors that favor maths-heavy presentation with obscure symbolic representation of the matrix manipulation process. Whilst such presentation could tickle the interest of graduate students, it leaves beginners confused.
Among the few books that make the subject less intimidating, without sacrificing rigor, Hutton's book rank high. His writing is generally tight and his coverage of the fundamental concept of FEA is superb. It remains perplexing why this book is really not as popular as others.
