I was a Russian Literature and Film minor in college. I love this film. It is bold and captures the joy and simplicity of Russian country life and the pride and paranoia in Stalins USSR. It is my favorite film by Mikhalkov and his young daughter Nadezhda is so incredible!

I love this movie. Mikhalkov is a master (Burnt by the Sun!). Menshikov is outstanding - and you cant beat Julia Ormond and Richard Harris. The story is fun but not 100% accurate and the scenery is gorgeous. Great film!
