I am amazed that a movie from 1949 dealt with the extreme racial prejudice against blacks in the South through the lens of a mixed race person, named Pinky. She had passed as white in the north and had a white doctor as a fiance. But that relationship could not be accepted in that time period.
It is a fascinating look at the attitudes regarding the color of skin only and the superficiality of that measure. I would recommend it as a facet of racial attitudes from that time period, but also a commentary on attitudes in today's society. I hope that we have become better, but sometimes I doubt it.
