Polis Evo 3 …..
A short review.
Overview :-
Same ol’ same ol’ … good cops, cop turned to a bad guy, girl caught in between, body tied to a bomb, plotting a revenge because wife died, etc.
1) Script, Screenplay & Dialogues :
Weak and predictable script, lack of flair despite having a large unit in the scripting department. Dialogues were simple with the main cast speaking in Terengganu dialect, angry words thrown around by the antagonist just to prove his point.
2/10
2) Direction :
Syafiq Yusof probably did what an action movie would require and just that. Nothing was seemingly out of the box, lacking in creativity and he failed to build the characters involved. Fight scenes were executed well with some nice camera movements but other than that the film felt rather mundane.
2/10
3) Cinematography :
Jordan Chiam whom I have worked with several times before when he was the 1st Assistant Cameraman in our commercial days delivered a decent job but again it lacked what an action film would be about.
4/10
4) Production Design
Shabbily done to be honest. It was done without much effort and thoughts put in. But I must say that the firearm props were realistic.
Wardrobe was certainly questionable for some of the scenes. I wonder who wears a full on leather jacket zipped up to the neck in a hot tropical climate?
3/10
5) Casts
Shaheizy Sam’ Inspector Khai and Zizan Razak’s Inspector Sani roles were the usual, bekng carried forward from the 2nd edition. Yet, there wasn’t enough conviction in their characters. I have always wondered on which part of Zizan is suitable to carry the role of a cop.
Sharnaaz Ahmad’s intimidating looks fitted well to play the part of the sociopathic criminal Reza whose singular goal is to exact revenge against those who wronged him in the first place, but he tends to overact in some scenes, resulting in him trying too hard to make an impression as Reza.
Polis Evo 3 also introduced four new characters played by Douglas Lim, Syafiq Kyle, Farali Khan and Fauzi Nawawi — all of whom delivered decent supporting roles in their respective law enforcement roles as part of the team members with Khai and Sani but I felt that it wasn’t enough. Douglas could have added more humour to the film for the personality he is known for. Even Nora Danish’s part as Anis wasn’t developed enough.
4/10
6) Post Production
A decent edit was done but explosion CGI was horrid. Music and background sound were subtle but lacked in its dramatic tones for this action movie.
5/10
My closing note :
The production values of this movie is mediocre and I am not surprised for its box office collection of more than RM50 million!!
Movies like this do not require much thinking from the audience nor boggle their minds into deep thoughts. A mindless movie like this has its ready audience, always.
Overall 3.5/10
