I was SO excited for this. Bruce Timm’s return to early days of Batman based in the 1940’s, for adult audiences. So that’s what I was expecting. I understand it was a ‘spiritual’ predecessor… but I didn’t expect it to go beyond redesigns and have gender and race swapping. That’s fine and I’m open to but We have so many of these already and again I was expecting “classic” interpretations with a return to the 40’s.
I love the style of the intro animation, but I find the actual characters animation to be a step back when I was expecting a swan song masterpiece. I suspect with deadlines, utilizing the anime tricks to pump these out.
I’m uninterested in the story from the get go. It’s seems like at a level for kids, but then peppered with adult themes/language that make me uncertain what age bracket they were aiming towards. I’m only one episode in but I feel like it’s been a huge letdown already.
Expectations … unmet are the source of disappointment . Perhaps now that my expectations have been adjusted I will warm up to it.
I’ll adjust my score if I do..
*update, episode 2 story much more intriguing.. upping my score from a two to three. I’ll def give another episode a shot
