I have this film on DVD & I never get tired of watching it.This is the original (B/W) 1951 version of "The Thing from Another World".And it's Howard Hawks (Producer) not Howard Hughes. There are no special effects because this film doesn't need it.All the characters are fantastic & the conversations BTW them is fast-paced, & humorous.Love the interaction & relationship BTW them especially the Pilot (Kenneth Tobey) & Margaret Sheridan (Secretary to the Scientist), Robert Cornthwaite, who is an idiot.Margaret Sheridan is the most intelligent & practical character out of the whole bunch of them, especially when she answers the question "What do you do with a vegetable" & she replies "Boil it" & later on when she says "Your Breath" & the reporter says "I'm sorry" & she says "No you ninnies, look" & she blows & they all then realise they are not getting any heat, because the Thing has turned off the gas, trying to freeze them out.The music of Dimitri Tiomkin is great & the ending is great, especially when the Pilot's pals are trying to convince Kenneth Tobey to marry Margaret Sheridan. The whole interaction is fantastic & fast-paced.Also there are some very funny moments in the film, especially when Margaret Sheridan says to Kenneth Tobey "Well, there were moments when you were like an oxtypus, I never saw so many hands" & he replies "Well, it's because I liked you right away, can we start again?"Yes it's creepy & scary, but not over the top, & there is lots of humour. You don't get that combination very much these days.I have a great selection of Science Fiction movie from the 50's era incl "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (B/W), "THEM",(B/W) which also includes James Arness as the Detective, quite different from his role in "The Thing From Another World".Also have "Forbidden Planet"(Colour), "When World's Collide".Also, "It Came from Outerspace" & "This Island Earth" & "War of the Worlds" (1952) & finally "It Came from Beneath the Sea" which also stars Kenneth Tobey. These are all originals & they are all fantastic, better than any remakes. What more can I say.
