If you are in the mood to watch a brooding “supposedly in love” with a sex-centric cheating wife, then this movie is for you. Ben Affleck has the same dour expression throughout the movie, and his wife, Ana de Armas, is an unlikeable character with her cloyingly, fake love for her husband and disinterest in her adorable child (the shining star in this movie). The last 15 minutes prove somewhat suspenseful, but the ending has you scratching your head with no resolve. Affleck’s obsession with snails is another questionable connection to this dreary plot (apologies to the author of the book). Not a movie I would recommend spending quality time with.
