I've watched Wolfwalkers for the first time today and it's a gem compared to most other recent movies I've watched. The animation style is very smooth but yet, also dirty in a good way. I love how it combines old-fashioned with modern animation techniques. The general plot itself besides the developing friendship of Robyn and Mebh is a bit vanilla but it's acceptable. There's a lot of people who disliked the way Christianity was portrayed in the film since the Lord Protector treats the spiritual power of wolfwalkers as witchcraft and is a dictator to his own people in general with some people saying that he should at least act benevolent to them but in my opinion, it well-portrays the consequences of how extremism with religion is never a good thing and can leave you corrupted which is a topic that very few films would even focus on. I feel like if he was portrayed as a benevolent person to his people while still wanting to wipe out the wolf pack and the forest, it would blur the line between being a pious person and being an extremist. I love how the relationship between Robyn and Mebh is portrayed as a very close friendship or sisterly relationship rather than plain romance. There needs to be more movies which reminds us that you don't have to be romantically and sexually involved to develop a true connection and you don't need to go looking for a prince charming or a princess to enjoy life. Even though the plot is not the most complex, this movie makes up for it with strong characterizations, spirituality, themes, and brilliant animation style which is why I'm rating Wolfwalkers 5 stars.
