I’m all for cheesy feel-good Christmas films, but this just made me angry hence my need to review (how a female director was on-board with this project baffles me). As others have said it could easily have been a horror as I felt a sense of doom when the female protagonist gets whipped away from her award-winning broadcasting career to wake up with a ten foot dog drooling on her face and two kids jumping at her, demanding she makes them pancakes. Cue days of judgement from her kids when she’s ‘not doing things right’ and whining ‘but you have to BAKE the cookies’ (how dare she buy them from a store). And her ‘loving’ two dimensional husband looks at her like she’s got two heads the moment she talks about pursuing her dream job.
This was one hallmark film where I really hoped the twist would be that she flew to New York and lived happily ever after finding an actual fulfilling life, maybe somewhere down the line with a lovely man and maybe with kids, but ya know, also getting to keep a job she was clearly passionate & amazing at.
