Season 1 was too dark and violent, too much torture and prolonged screaming, less like traditional earlier Star Trek series. Special effects, however, and space tech, the new jumpsuit uniforms, the look of Discovery's interior design as well as the Klingon ship's design is amazingly creative with sweeping views from the bridge. Kudos to the set artists. Michael Burnham actress is awesomely talented as well as most of Discovery actors. Series writers seem to paint aliens as unnecessarily ugly, though. Thankfully season 2 seems less violent and dark.
