Having just finished the Main Story along with the Separate Ways DLC, I can safely say that this is one of the best remakes I have ever played in my career.
A little background about myself is that I have actually never played the original Resident Evil 4. Hell, I’ve never played any of the other Resident Evil games even! It wasn’t until I started seeing gameplay and reviews of this game that made me decide to give this game a fair chance once I finally got myself a PS5 last Christmas.
Of course, it’s not all perfect though. There is microtransaction bs like usual but even with that said the microtransactions themselves aren’t too egregious compared to other systems we’ve seen in modern day gaming.
Of course, you can’t just talk about Resident Evil and not bring up the atmosphere. In my opinion, Capcom nailed this aspect of the game. Everything is dark and gritty and the enemies themselves are some of the most terrifying I’ve ever seen. And they’re not all that easy to kill either, some of which feel like they require a whole magazine to wipe out which, you could argue is a bad thing yes and I would definitely see where you’re coming from. However, this honestly didn’t bother me all that much. I often found myself having enough resources to deal with the enemies to begin with and even if I didn’t, it’s not like the game made it an objective to kill every enemy possible. Sometimes, during specific story moments, you’re actually required to flee from enemies which was usually during moments when bosses were chasing you. The game would also conveniently placed explosive barrels around every once in a while to help deal with these monsters so I feel like this issue really comes down to people just not knowing how to properly utilize their weapon arsenal.
Speaking of the bosses, man are they insane! Yes, they are just bullet sponges at the end of the day but the presentation combined with the lore and great music that often accompanied the background will forever be compliments of mine regarding these vigorous uncontrollable beasts!
The characters here are also very likable, Leon being a perfect example! He’s often a really interesting and relatable character along with his quirky and witty lines during certain encounters making the time you play as him a really enjoyable experience. And his personality in general really added to the overall story that is Resident Evil 4.
Overall, a solid 8 out of 10 from me! Can’t wait to delve into the other Resident Evil games!!!
