In this movie, I think Taika was really trying to re-capture the lightning rod (see what i did there?) that Thor Ragnarok was. Taikas dialogue was present everywhere in the movie, with the type of humor we have come to expect.
That being said.. it felt like too much. There were some sporadic funny moments, but it felt like the jokes were darts being thrown at an extremely small board to land with the audience. As a result, there are just not the same interactions I've come to enjoy in the Thor movies.
Hemsworth does a great job in small moments for Thor, and I think he does a fantastic job playing a vengeful or inspired Thor. But, I don't think the script this time did him any favors.
Christian bale is fantastic as Gorr, although he had so little screen time that the pressure seemed rushed.
Lastly, and this pains me to say, but I wish Jane Foster's storyline had occurred in another movie. The serious tone and the investment from Thor felt... out of place in this movie. Unfortunately, I think this was another casualty of the script and tone of this movie.
Hoping Thorr can bounce back in his next outting!
