Humans and their happiness are the standard by which things ought be assessed.
Others like the late David Graber have a strange view that a pristine planet devoid of us is better. He even wrote: "some of us can only hope for the right virus to come along."
He got his hope and died suddenly in 2020. Lucky man.
Meanwhile those who love our species and want the pursuit of happiness, they must read this book

I am watching my nation, the UK, fail as all about me the extractive elites are out growing the remnants of our inclusive elites.
This wonderful book clears this view and no more need you see through.a glass darkly.
Dynamic industrial cities of the past are now governed by grasping unproductive grifters and where there was once profitable enterprise there are ever louder calls for subsidies.
I fear the victory of the extractive elites for that way lead to collapse.
Great eye opening book.
