All they know is that the signal got lost and the power went off and suddenly everybody is panicking like its the end of the world. Throughout the movie it feels like there is no common sense used. Jets fly around and tanks move west on a train because of some mysterious natural disaster. Also nobody actually knows what is going on and still sheriffs close the small town. When Will arrived at the small town he didn't even bother asking if anyone knows what is going on. Basically everybody goes in a massive panic after a power outage, thunderstorm and lost signal. If people really reacted like this after a power outage then South Africa would be this movie every day. The visual scenary on the other hand was quite good.
