Choreography? Great. Actors? Great. Set and Wardrobe design? Great. Even the musical numbers were ‘good’.
However, the plot was wack.
They really really could have had a deep underlying message that turned this movie into something truly powerful.
Unfortunately the plot was all over the board to me, jumping back and forth between story lines, some that felt exceedingly random, and the musical numbers dissolved any deep feeling that you could develop during the emotional parts.
I understand the positive reviews if you just look at the actors performances and the dancing but I think most people could understand that a strong continuous, smooth-flowing plot was not truly present. And I do believe that in other cases a certain amount of jumping around can be added in for effect and it still have a smooth-flowing plot.
It felt like the director got too caught up in the glitz of it all to stick to telling a good story as well. Not to mention the literal ad placements IN the movie? Come on. Can obvious multi-million dollar company advertisements just stay the heck out of movies, just maybe? We all see ads 24/7, they don’t have a place in story telling unless done extremely tastefully, and blasting their name out and having them in the background on LED billboards is not tasteful, it’s cheap.
Just my opinion though! Curious if anyone else picked up on this. Just sad because I felt like this had a great chance at being a ‘forever’ type of movie that you go back to over and over….
