I enjoyed the book, enjoyed the twist on the 12 Dancing Princesses, and enjoyed the dread and suspense. Very spooky, some bits reminded me of the Shining as well as Haunting of Hill House and I loved how macabre and creepy this retelling was.
What I didn't enjoy is that I felt the ending was pulled put at the last second, with characters that we hadn't been introduced to/heard backstory on. It felt very rushed and odd to have someone come out in the last 80 or so pages and be TA-DA responsible for all of this.
In addition, the romance felt off-kilter as well to me. I understood the ending, but again, just felt like there could have been either a very detailed chart regarding this world's pantheon of gods, or more information regarding them throughout, because as I was reading, it would introduce one or the other like the reader should already know how magnificent they are.
Overall, cool retelling, but the ending pulled me out of it because I thought it felt rushed and out of the blue.
