Maybe I'm too old to be the targeted audience for this one. It definitely feels like it was designed to appeal to high schoolers. Nor am I Mulsim, which this show is very much focused on their religion, culture, history, and the prejudices they face.
But yes, this is a superhero series staring a superhero and , well, sadly you are going to be deprived of much of that. It is more of a teen focused family comedy/drama that occasionally has moments of superpower action. Granted, the action slowly ramps up over the 6 episode run, but it is not the highlight of the story. Heck, much of the climatic battle at the end is a bunch of teenagers "Home Alone"ing the bad guy soldiers. This is also one of those stories where the hero does not wear her iconic outfit or come up with her proper superhero name until the very end.
Plot wise I found it rather unfocused. Like they keep throwing ideas at the wall yet none of them really stick. As mentioned, much of it is focused around quirky high school life and family drama. But there is also a secret group of near-immortals, some parallel dimension danger, another secret organization that counters the first one, another organization that hunts down "enhanced individuals", time travel for some reason, and more. Nothing really stays in focus long enough to have lasting impact.
I am unfamiliar with the comic book portrayal of Ms Marvel, but apparently they changed her power-set which has upset some fans. The powers she has in the series are comparable to Green Lantern- able to form temporary tangible constructs. Mostly she forms platforms in mid air to walk across, projects shields, and makes large stretched out hands emanating over her real ones which I suppose is most like her comic book self. I will note that the lead character being an obsessive fan of Captain Marvel was immediately off-putting given how that character is among the least popular in the MCU fandom.
It's teased at the end that Ms Marvel will be a character in the upcoming "the Marvels" film. So watch this series if you want to know what this character is all about, but you might be bored more often than invested. In comparison to all of the other MCU miniseries on Disney+, this is the weakest.
