TLDR: Oversimplified review in last 2 segments
Frieren is a phenomenal gem. I have watched many anime, and I have been watching anime for a long time; I have finished the entireties of anime like Naruto, Onepiece, the entire animated series of Pokemon, and i have watched most mainstream/popular anime and I consistently watch more niche animes, too. I want you to take my word from my standpoint when I say that: Frieren is a completely different anime. It's not like any other anime I've ever seen, In a really, really good way.
For one, it has a unique artstyle, with an emphasis on the gorgeous environment and landscapes to create moods and and feelings. The action scenes are greatly animated and the colors for the nature are gorgeous.
I binged the entire series last night and I have to say, it's like I lived a whole life overnight. This anime is mature, slow paced, gentle and sweet. Although it is a shounen and adventure anime in a fantasy land, the anime is more about the intimate relations inbetween and the emotions that come with it. It has some truly beautiful things to say.
Some people, especially people who frequently consume Anime or prefer fast paced things with lots of conflict and action, may get bored of this anime after some time. That's because this anime isn't really about the achieving of greatness or going on great adventures, its more about enjoying the little things inbetween and appreciating the relationships and company we have around us. The main character, Frieren, isn't really much of a "powerful ambitious" protagonist; She's better described as an observer to the world around her. We get a condensed perspective through her eyes as an elf who lives for many hundreds of years, whilst her friends and companions live for little less than a hundred.
Time is fleeting, and before you know it, time runs out. Even if Frieren's time isn't going to run out anytime soon, she must learn to respect and cherish the time that other people have, which is significantly less than she does. Even for Frieren, who lives for what might virtually look like forever from our standpoint, she still has things to learn.
just a beautiful anime. if you are looking for a fast paced super adventure, i would not reccomend this. although there is some action, it's not the focus. if you're looking for a refreshing, mature, realistic and emotional narrative about relationships and time, this is DEFINITELY for you. Gorgeous and heartwarming
i really enjoyed this. this was super refreshing for me; this is definitely a gem. thank you for reading my review.
