Kerensa Birch

I usually love musicals and was really looking forward to seeing this but, for some reason, I couldn't get into it at all. Even the songs I found unmemorable and intrusive. When I found myself fast forwarding every time someone started singing, which was a lot, I gave up after half an hour and turned it off.

Appalling script and I could have created better special effects with a hose and bathtub. Continuity was a joke. The ark is supposedly being tossed about wildly in a massive superstorm, yet people inside are walking around normally as if it were a cruise ship. At one point, Maddie heads out on deck to repair a sail and she's in bright sunshine. The actress who plays Maddie is just about the only decent actor of the lot, though the young female officer to the right of the ark's captain makes a valiant effort of appearing suitably focused on her job in the final scenes. Also the woman Seal is fairly believable too. I hope these three have the chance to do better films than this steaming pile of manure.

I have always loved this charming little film, undoubtedly helped by its exceptional cast, several of whom were on their way to serious stardom. It's lightweight, but good fun at the same time.

Very young romantics will probably love it but, for plotline and acting, it is corny, kitschy and makes Princess Diaries look like a cinematic masterpiece. I gave up after about half an hour.
