I have watched this movie three times in the last month. Definitely my favorite Audrey Hepburn film, even though it is much more underrated compared to other of her films such as Breakfast At Tiffany's. The thing is, every aspect of Charade in utterly and completely marvelous.
The cast? Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant, are you kidding? Amazing.
The music? Original score by Henry Mancini, the same composer for Moon River and the rest of the Breakfast At Tiffany's score. I cannot get the Charade song out of my head. So perfectly haunting and sinister.
The romance? Absolute gold. So tender and heartfelt and such an amazing counterpart to the suspense and mysterious side of the film.
The dialogue? Witty banter and perfect comebacks, oh-so-quotable moments, ingenious wordplay, and more.
The costumes? PRODIGAL. Made by Hubert De Givenchy, they perfectly encapsulate the classic autumnal 60s look. It gives the film a more vintage quality, and I adore it.
The humor? Hilarious. Cary Grant getting in the shower with his suit on? Name a more funny moment. Oh wait, the entirety of Charade, because, quite frankly, it really is THAT GOOD.
Finally, the actual mystery. So incredibly compelling. This movie keeps you hooked, guessing and wondering, mind turning, till the end.
Less than two hours, this movie is short and sweet, yet holds so many iconic moments; it will make you sigh and gasp and your heart beat fast. I could not recommend it more (and I do, telling everybody I've ever known to watch it!)
