Don’t let yourself be put off by the dismissals from people who didn’t get it. This brilliant, extremely well-made film is deliberately confusing. But if you humbly go for the ride with writer-director Kaufman along what he presents as an unnervingly thin barrier between comedy and horror, the meaning is revealed in the last long shot. I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice it to say that this scene, where the movie ends, is where the main character’s mental journey begins.
