This book is dangerous at worst, unethical at best. The author shares pseudoscience to back up anecdotal examples of inherited intergenerational trauma. Some examples don’t even make sense based on his un-cited “research.” He is not a mental health expert and possesses an English degree while spouting self-help, “groundbreaking” nonsense that every mental health professional in my field is appalled by. Telling a trauma survivor that the ONLY way to heal is by understanding your parent’s own trauma and reconciling with them?! This is outrageous. He even blamed parentification on the child! Also, how do you have a whole book based on epigenetics and inherited trauma and not once mention slavery in the US? When he opened a chapter with a Bible verse, I should’ve just closed the book. I felt super icky and gaslit while trying to slog through this and ultimately had to stop reading it because it was making me so angry.
