Not nearly as good as it could have been. Without spoiling anything, the ending of story mode was LAZY writing, and was pretty much a big serving of "Don't like what we wrote? Well here are all other 1 billion possible scenarios just to take the pressure off of us". It started out fantastic. It felt like all of the side characters were finally going to get their due spotlight, only to have it dimmed half way through it all.
The bringing back of characters who didn't get ANY spotlight like Darrius, Nitara etc only to give them 0.1% more and then sweep them away yet again felt like a waste of roster space. Overall a well playing game but they threw it all together too quickly. It should have been made into an open world exploration mode. The character by character chapter by chapter slog has grown old to me. Invasions just feels like a cheap, time sucking waste as well. I love skins too, but I don't want to spend days unlocking them. Not AGAIN.
I love anything mortal kombat and will always support the franchise, but this just feel likes a double that could have been a grand slam. Oh, and be prepared for Megan Fox's voice work to completely take you out of any immersion you feel. Her delivery is plain awful and uninspired. This game proves that MK Deception's Konquest was the best way to dive into the lore of the universe. You could go to all of the realms, visit who you wanted to learn about first, and train with them. It was perfect. With today's technology, it shouldn't be difficult to replicate that experience.
