After waiting 4 years and multiple delays, disappointing is the word I'd use. I am a huge Digimon fan, and absolutely loved Cyber Sleuth. I'm about 8 hours in, and it doesn't get better with the lack of action. Just continually pressing a and talking to people. The worst part is the "free time" portions where you have to go to 5-8 different areas multiple times and just talk, and you'll MAYBE get 1 battle if you're lucky.
The combat itself is quite fun. It's pretty rudimentary, but if they had more of it, I'd be giving this 4/5. There's a built-in formula for the perfect tactics game (Final Fantasy Tactics), and they went so off-base here that it just didn't work. They also indirectly discourage grinding by not allowing you to digivolve earlier on, and making you use items. There is also no de-digivolve for the non-main characters. It's not like they needed to make some open world game, or even make it less linear. They just needed a bit of flexibility and tone down the talking by about 60%.
After this travesty, Bandai needs to either hire some people from Square Enix, or let a 3rd party make the next game if they ever want to make a tactics game again. That being said, pokemon lost my confidence during Sun & Moon, and absolutely redeemed themselves with Pokemon: Legends Arceus. I really hope Bandai can make digimon work the same.
