Seen lots of Hong Kong drama since in 1970s. After 1997, noted nothing spectacular in HK drama series. Personally, plots are pretty basic episodes after episodes, seems like producers were more keen to shoot in volume rather than write up a good story for each chapter. No offence, compare Korean TV series to HK TV series now, one can see the difference the interest each series garner given that streaming are easily available presently.
One can see Korean drama become more popular while viewer interest in HK produced is flat.
