For me personally I feel like the How to train your Dragon franchise is one of the best Animated franchise of modern generation. With that being said though, I couldn’t help but feel slightly underwhelmed by the third instalment of the film. Don’t get me wrong, by no means this is not an awful film; the movie genuinely a good movie. The animation breathtakingly spectacular, the way they render, the attention to detail, all of it is just sensational. The characters that you love are back and of course that friendship of Toothless and Hiccup is back and is stronger than ever. The emotional weight that, that friendship brings, hold the movie and quite honestly the entire franchise together. And seeing on screen is a magnificent sight. With all of that being said though, I do feel like this probably the weakest among the How to train your Dragon movies, at certain points it does render you kinda underwhelmed and makes you think that they could have done so much more. The weakest part of the film has got to be the villain. Considering that essentially they need this villain of epic proportions to create this epic atmosphere for an epic finally, Grimmel just did not deliver. Not in the slightest. Especially with a villain like Drago from the previous film, Grimmel ultimately became boring kinda unimportant.
All in all I firmly believe that this isn’t as impactful and emotional as the first two films but however I do still think this is a good film and is a solid send off to such a great franchise.
