This is a solid show with plenty to offer, such as the unique presentation of events in the form of flashbacks told to Ted’s kids. However, it is riddled with inconsistencies, mistakes and copied topics. HIMYM capitalized on the sitcom drought of the early 2000’s following the endings of Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld and other heavy-hitting comedies. The writers decided to, for the majority of the shows, make minor tweaks/modernizations to topics already presented by their precursors. The actors seemed shaky at first but over time their chemistry and commitment grew as the talented cast flourished. During the later seasons, however, the show began to overstay its welcome as they desperately stretched the story line leading up to—you guessed it—how Ted met their mother. All those years led up to a simply disappointing finale. Despite the significant flaws, How I Met Your Mother is still a good show that is fun to watch, with edgy humor, wacky adventures, and deeply emotional moments.
